I'm excited to finally share the news of our $12 million Series A round, led by Molten Ventures. Our existing investors, Hummingbird Ventures, Amino Collective, and Y Combinator have also shown their continued belief in our mission by participating in this round. We’ve also got some incredible angels joining us, including Sidar Sahin, the founder of Peak Games.
What I’m even more excited about is the journey that we’ve been on, and where we’re going.
When Rachel and I founded Anima back in 2021, it was personal. We'd both had deeply painful experiences with the healthcare system, and we knew there had to be a better way. I had quit practising medicine, tired of breaking bad news over and over again to patients and their families. So many of those conversations were avoidable - the patient just didn’t get a great care plan, quickly.
Rachel’s family had been through this personally. Rachel lost her grandmother after a series of missed opportunities, crucial forgotten screening questions and eventually a missed diagnosis.
We both spent some time where we thought we might make the biggest difference - in policymaking. But that wasn’t the place where widespread change was going to happen quickly. So we set out to build Anima - the universal operating system for integrated care. Anima is built to join up patient care in a single source of patient truth across any number of care settings, powered by our own deep learning healthcare engine.
The impact we’ve had since I wrote the first line of Anima’s backend just a few years ago is something I’m incredibly proud of. Anima is now deployed in over 200 NHS clinics in England who provide care for a combined 2 million patients. Over 400,000 requests are resolved through our platform each month. We've halved the time practices spend on coding, processing, and filing documents. With the release of Anima 1.5 this year, we're going to enable unprecedented automation of front- and back-office workloads, and even greater interoperability of data to support digital integrated care across the globe.
None of this would be possible without our team. We don’t just hire anyone - we're bringing together the most insanely mission-driven people out there. We call them “builders with a twinkle in their eye” - people who care deeply about what we're doing, and will stop at nothing to help us achieve our mission. Over half of our team are former VC-backed founders - they know what it takes to build something truly transformative.
That’s what Anima has always strived to be - transformative. We’re not just building another piece of software, or another way to send messages, or capture data. Our vision for Anima 2.0 is going to democratise deep phenotyping and personalised medicine across the entire healthcare space, augmenting human clinicians with superhuman abilities through multimodal inference of high-resolution longitudinal care journeys. We're not just building a platform - we're unifying healthcare and life science pipelines in a way that has never been done before.
To everyone that’s been with us on this journey with us so far - those first practices that started using Anima before anyone else and all that have followed, to every user that’s given us feedback and told us what’s working and what could be better, to our new investors and our earliest backers who bought into the vision from day one, and to the whole crew of the ship we’re on: thank you.
If you’re part of a healthcare team looking to make changes to the way you work - from adding more capacity to your coding team, to delivering system-wide working across a whole region - the team would love to hear from you. You can find some time with us here.
And finally, if you're reading this and feeling that unreasonable conviction, that compulsion in your heart to be part of something truly transformative - come and join us. We're hiring rockstars across the team and around the world to come with us on this journey.
